This facility is designed to significantly increase the port’s annual handling capacity by allowing multiple large vessels to dock simultaneously, thereby improving cargo handling efficiency.
Description
"A berth of 1,200 m in length is being constructed, out of the aggregate length of “BERTH 100” which amounts to 1,680 m overall, a depth of 18 m, an area of approximately 840,000 m3, and a capacity up to 1.5 million TEUs/year.
The establishment of the terminal with such depth aims at allowing the terminal to receive gigantic vessels with a length of 400 meters.
The rest of the area of “BERTH 100” will be used in the handling of general and ro-ro cargoes so as to increase the volume of handled containers and cargoes."
History
The primary container terminal operations are managed by a major global maritime consortium led by Hutchison Ports as the main operator, in direct partnership with MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) and COSCO. Under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concession contract with the Alexandria Port Authority, this alliance is responsible for the terminal's superstructure, long-term commercial management, and maintenance
