Karakoram Highway Phase I

Objective

Description

This project include two parts, the Karakoram Highway Improvement (Raikot–Khunjerab Section) and the Karakoram Highway Realignment Project (Attabad Lake Section). The Attabad landslide in 2010 submerged part of the highway. The original Raikot–Khunjerab upgrade therefore had to be supplemented by the 24 km Attabad realignment with tunnels and bridges. In practice these became a single engineering programme.
