Objective

The project will promote economic growth and reduce poverty by improving the transport network and increasing regional trade and cooperation through rehabilitation of the road linking the Kyrgyz Republic, the People's Republic of China, and Uzbekistan.

Description

improvement of about 124 km of the two-lane highway from Osh to Gulcha, to Sopu Korgon.

History

This project falls under CAREC corridor 3 in the earlier versions of planning. In both 2008 and 2013 CAREC transport and trade facilitation strategy document, the section between Osh and Sary-Tash in Kyrgyzstan belongs to CAREC 3. In the 2016 Railway Strategy, however, due to the expansion of CAREC membership and the subsequent altering of route planning (especially the significant changes to CAREC 2 & 3), the Osh-Sary-Tash section became part of CAREC 2. Similar changes happened to other projects in Kyrgyzstan. Road projects that conncect Bishkek to the South are no longer part of any CAREC routes in the new railway strategy.
