Objective

"The project will improve railway services in Azerbaijan, including the competitiveness, financial sustainability, operating and cost efficiency, and capacity of Azerbaijan Railway, in particular along the east–west transport corridor toward Georgia." -World Bank

Description

The project rehabilitates the East–West Main Line, including about 240 kilometers of mainline track, signaling, and power supply rehabilitation; procuring new 25-kilovolt (kV) mainline electric locomotives; modernizing the Azerbaijan Railway (ADDY), including implementation of a computerized accounting system, provision of technical services and training to ADDY and the Ministry of Transport, and provision of equipment to improve oil spill prevention and response capacity; and providing training and services to the project implementing unit and equipment for project implementation.
